A successful Mexican chain restaurant owner is getting a healthy serving of U.S. justice. America has been very good to entrepreneur Marco Cuellar, 37, of Hudsonville Michigan. In fact, he and his family were at one point running a total of 90 restaurants across five states.
While enjoying the American Dream, however, Marco ignored a big American reality…the IRS. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Marco skimmed over $600,000 from his Michigan restaurants between 2008 and 2012, and he neglected to mention this income on his taxes.
Cuellar has been sentenced to a year in jail, and was ordered to pay $370,000 in back taxes and penalties to the Internal Revenue Service. Cuellar is a Mexican citizen who was living in the U.S. legally. Because he committed tax fraud, he faces possible deportation after he serves his time in jail.
